Andrew Reese

 

Master Of the Year

 

 

Master Reese started the martial arts at the age of 8. He has studied many diffetent styles including Judo wrestling, Tae Kwond do Boxing Shorinji Kempo Kickboxing, Tuite Jitsu, and Kyoshi jitu. He is the Chief Technical Advisor and an authorized Examiner for Tao-I Li Liang. He is an active student under George Dillman and is associated under the Dillman Karate International .He is also now studying Modern Arnis.

Rai W. Finch

 

Karate Master of the Year

 

 

Mr. Finch holds the rank of 6th degree black in the traditional art of Shotokan karate. Mr. Finch has also studied Judo, Aikido and Kendo. He is a member of the Arizona Karate Federation and resides in Phoenix Arizona. He was a Captain in the Air Force and stationed in Japan. While in Japan he had the honor of training with Karate Legend and founder of Shotokan Karate, Gichin Funakoshi.

 

 

Teresa Mastison

 

Children's Instructor of the Year

 

 

Teresa Ann Mastison began studying Aikido in 1989 and holds the rank of 4th degree black belt. She is the senior instructor for the children's programs and instruction for Aikido of Phoenix. Mrs. Mastison is renowned for her highly successful children's program and travels the US giving lectures and seminars on teaching Aikido to children. Prior to taking the reigns of the childrens program, Mrs. Mastison taught elementary school for 11 years. This experience with children combined with her excellent martial skills has allowed her to become one of the prominent female martial arts instructors in the United States

 

 

Gene Potocki

 

Sempai of the Year

 

 

Gene Potocki began studying Aikido in 1991 while assigned to a special operations group in Ft. Riley Kansas. He holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in Aikido and is the Sempai for Aikido of Phoenix-one of the largest Aikido schools in the US. Additionally, Mr. Potocki is the Training Director for Force Options Tactical Training Services. Mr. Potocki is a 21 year multiple combat veteran of the US Army with 17 of those years being spent in special operations as an Army Ranger.

Spaldings World Class Karate is owned and operated by Daniel Spalding. Mr. Spalding is a several time United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee. Roy Farris Jr.

Eli Gonzales

 

Most Inspiring Martial Artist of the Year

 

 

Eli Gonzales began his martial arts career at the age of 9, taking boxing lessons at the local boys club where he became a national boxing champion. Eli won titles at the Diamond Belt Championships in Los Angelos and the Golden Glove Championships. He then began to train in the art of Jeet Kune Do. During his training he met and became a training partner with Benny the Jet Urquidez and many others. Mr Gonzales now trains with Grandmaster Jose Bueno in the Progressive System of Martial arts. Mr Gonzales continues to teach at his training facility in Shasta Lake California.

 

 

James Overton

James Overton was exposed to the arts at a very young age, Then at the age of 13 he began formal training. He has trained extensively in Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Aikido, amateur boxing and professional kickboxing. He also holds teaching licenses in Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Jujitsu, Sambo Ninjitsu and Hapkido. In 1990, based on his extensive and eclectic training experience and street fighting knowledge, he founded and taught the art originally known as Black Mamba, now encompassed by the broader Mamba-Ryu

Mr. Sebra has studied the arts of Shaolin Kenpo, American Kenpo, Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Arnis, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kobudo and Kung Fu. He is the founder of Sankai Kenpo Karate System. He owns and operates Mountain Martial Arts in California where his family also trains. He is a certified Instructor and ambassador for the World Black Belt Bureau and is a member of the Worldwide Kenpo Karate Association

Darin Reisler

Mr. Reisler has studied many different styles of martial arts over the past 25 years. He holds black belt ranking in multiple systems with different emphasis, with a foundation rooted in Kung-Fu. In 2003 his system of Sho Biyn Jiu –translated as "First Understand Peace" was recognized. It is a Christian based art that combines concepts from northern Chinese Kung-Fu with other styles in a significantly distinctive manner. Mr Reisler owns and operates Plus one Defense Systems in West Hartford Connecticut with a student base of over 150 students.

Master Anta started taking Judo in 1972 and has continued to study numerous styles of Karate and Kung Fu. In 1976 he began body building and in 1983 won second runner up in the NPC Junior Florida and Miami Bodybuilding Championships. Sifu Anta hold Master level in Hung Gar Kung Fu and Haganah FIGHT. He holds instructor certifications in Fitness Kickboxing, Pilates, Kettlebells . He is a member of the American Council of Martial Arts and is an Officer Agent of the National Security Alliance Kid Safe Network. He has been inducted into the Florida Martial Arts Brotherhood Hall Of Fame.

 

 

Bruce Geary

 

Instructor of the Year

 

 

Mr Geary born and raised in South Africa, first started training in Renshukan Karate and Judo. Later to train in Muay Thai, Shuriken Kickboxing and Kyukoshinkai karate. After moving to Florida he met GM Le Grand and started training in the Lost Legacy System and now holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt.

 

 

Angelo Mazza

 

Karate Instructor of the Year

 

 

Sensei Mazza started his martial arts journey in 1973 as a concerned parent. By assisting ant tournaments and attending classes he became a judge for the Amateur Athletic Union.In 1979 he set goal of perfection and eventually becoming a New York State first place winner in kata and kunite He was promoted to Shodan and nidan by Master Ansei Ueshiro. He has had the pleasure of training with the late Robert Trias, George Alexander, Bill Wallace Rudy Croswell, Jeffrey Day and many others. Today Sensei Mazza hold the rank of 6th degree black belt inMatsubayashi Ryu Karate Do and owns 2 dojos.

 

 

Leo Thalassites

 

Most Distinguished Master

 

 

Leo Thalassites born April 26 1926. Began studying Greco-Roman Wrestling under his father Rev. George Thalassites, a Greek Orthodox priest. In 1964 he tried out for the Olympics, becoming a member of the U.S Greco-Roman wrestling team. He also became a member of the US Marines receiving numerous commendations and awards including 2 purple hearts from WWII and one purple heart from the Korean War. In the service he began his martial arts training and self defense. Later becoming a lead instructor for the United States Karate Association. He has been inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall Of Fame and the AHEPA Hellenic Athletic Hall Of Fame. In 1956 he joined the Dade Metro Police Dept. in Florida. Leo is also known as the conditioning coach of Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Hector Camacho, Joel Casamayor and many other boxers. At the age of 80 Leo is still very active in Church, boxing, martial arts, the police and military as well as an active instructor for the police academy.

Robert Quinn

 

Master of the Year

 

 

Mr. Quinn resides in Tucker Georga. He has studied Chinese Kenpo and holds a 3rd degree black belt in American Kenpo, a 5th degree black belt in Modern Arnis and a 7th degree black belt Master level in American Karate. He has previously received the award of Master Instructor of the Year and continues to train in the Martial Arts as a way of life.

He is founder of the Chinese Athletic Arts Academy and serves as Treasurer and Senior Advisor to the Hawaii Martial Arts Society. Derald Scott Brown

Mr. Brown holds the rank of 7th degree black belt in the art of Tae Kwon Do. He has also studied Wing Chun, boxing and Aiki Jujitsu. He is a member of the USTU, the AAU, The USNTF. He has received several awards during his career including Outstanding Leadership Award presented to him by Dr. Duk Gun Kwon at the 2005 USNTF International TaeKwonDo competition in Las Vegas.

 

 

Vera Harrison

 

Female Grandmaster of the Year

 

 

Hanshi Vera Harrison started her martial arts career at the age of 16, over 30 years ago. She holds a 7th degree black belt in the art of Shuri Ryu Karate Do and high ranking black belts in Shintoyoshin Self Defense and Tae kwon Do. She also holds rank in Judo, Kobudo and Aikido. She has competed in Kata, Kumite and weapons over most of her martial arts career with the emphasis on kumite. She is a Pan Am Gold medal winner in kumite. The USKK Womens National Champion 2 years in a row before stepping down. AAU National Champion, USA Tae Kwon Do Champion, UNTFI Champion and the US Open International TKD Gold Medalist.

 

 

Sean Marbutt

Master Marbutt has been studying Martial Arts for 24 years Specializing in Kajukenbo, an eclectic art from Hawaii. During his training Mr. Marbutt has accumulated many awards and recognitions including previous Hall of Fame inductions. Master Marbutt has also trained in Kickboxing, Aikido, Kali, Gracie Jujitsu and others. After many years in the tournament circuit that included a three year run of undefeated matches, Kajukenbo is where he's most excelled. It is his preferred art and the one that he plans to continue to perfect and teaching is his passion.

Mrs. Burkett now owns her own karate school where she teaches these disciplines. She has competed and won numerous championships and Grand Champion titles. Master Don Clift holds the rank of 5th degree black belt. He has studied Shorei Goju Ryu and Ryu Kyu Kempo. He also holds rank in several other styles and systems including Small Circle Jujitsu under Professor Leon Jay and William Higginbotham, He holds certifications in weapons training in the Shuri Goju Ryu Karate system. He has been inducted into two International Martial Arts Hall of Fames. He sits on the Board of Directors for several associations and is a certified official and referee.

 

 

Jim Snowberger

Master Snowberger's martial arts career began during his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1972 while serving in VietNam. Master Snowberger now holds a 5th degree black belt in Tae KwonDo and his system of Karate Do. He co-owns and co-instructs with his wife Kelli at Snow's TaeKwonDo and Karate Do Federation. Although retired for many years of local, state and national competition, Master Snowberger did compete in 2 consecutive World Games competitions with the US National Martial Arts Team Alliance where he earned 2 World titles in the Men's Master Division of Sparring. He is co-State Director for Indiana representing the International Martial Arts Council of America under Prof. Marty Cale and s member of the Ne-Du-U-Kon-Tae Organization under the direction of Master Rod Kauffman.

Sensei Kelli Snowberger began her martial arts career over 20 years ago with informal training in Judo and Kenpo.Mrs. Snowberger now hold the rank of 3rd degree black belt in both TaeKwonDo and Karate Do. She co-owns and instructs along side her husband at Snows TaeKwonDo and Karate Do Federation.She is State Director for the International Martial Arts Council of America under Prof. Marty Cale. She is also a member of the US National Martial Arts Alliance, the Ne-Du-U-Kon-Tae Karate Kung Fu Federation, the USMA and Karate for Christ Organization. Mrs. Snowberger has been inducted into several Hall of Fames due to her dedication and honor for the martial arts.

Master Boyd has been the Chief Instructor and President of the Ronin Bushido Karate Club in Richmond Kentucky since 1979.,teaching approximently 200 active students and training 164 black belts. He still teaches at Eastern Kentucky University in the Wellness Program which includes Aikido and Tai Chi. Master Boyd is also President and Chief Instructor of Aikido Control Training, a company based in Richmond, Kentucky providing self defense and control training to Federal-State and local agencies.

Michael Peterson has been studying martial arts for 23 years and currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Ryukyu Kempo and Kyusho Jitsu. He also holds a 2nd degree black belt in Isshin Ryu. Having started in martial arts training in the style of Shotokan, Chito Ryu Karate in 1981. Rick began training TaeKwonDo in 1985 and achieved 2nd degree black belt in 1990. He then began his study of Ryu Kyu Kempo and is presently a 5th degree black belt in this style. Rick is a member of Kyusho International and is co-owner, as well as Master Instructor of Premier Martial Arts located in Florence, KY. Rick also instructs Homeland Security agents in Cincinnati in self defense pressure point tactics. Rick was also honored to have been inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2004 as Ryu Kyu Kempo Instructor of the year, and in 2005 as Master Instructor.

 

 

Jeffrey Waddle

Mr. Waddle started the martial arts in 1971 in Chinese Goju. He has also studied Judo, Jujitsu, Wing Chun He is a member of Tracy's Kenpo and holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and the reserve. He has served with the Kentucky State police in the Undercover Narcotics division until he quit to run his Dojo full time.

Master O'Neil owns and operates a martial arts school in New Orleans named the Blue Lion Karate Academy,A school that was flooded in the Katrina storm. Master O'Neil is rebuilding his dojo and dream. He has competed in many tournaments during his career including 1990 United States Karate Alliance World Championship where he won Gran Champion Title. He was appointed to the 1998 Team USA for the Goodwill Games where he won 2 golds and 1 silver and was named competitor of the year by the President of the association.

Lonnie Clark

 

TKD Master of the Year

 

 

Master Clark began his training in the martial arts at the age of 38. He was promoted to the rank of 5th degree black belt in the art of Chin Mu Kwan Tae Kwon Do on May 6th 2006. He is a member of the International Chin Mu Kwan Tae Kwon Do. He teaches annually ath the Chin Mu Kwan Federation's Summer Camp where he is best know for developing a system of defense against knife and club attacks which can be taught to and used effectively by beginners as well as advanced students. Master Clark has also studied Shotokan and Isshinryu.

Ms. Derrickson has been studying the martial arts for 24 years. She holds the rank of 7th degree black belt in the Vietnamese style of Hiep Tinh Mon, a 6th degree black belt in HTM World Martial Arts, 4th Dan in Daito Ryu Aiki Jujitsu, a 3rd dan in Judo, 2nd dan in Kenjutsu and is 10 times DC Metropolitan American Kickboxing Champion, 3 time Muay Thai Champion and 17 year yoga practicioner.

Grandmaster Dung is a retired Lt. Colonel for the US 5th Special Forces, Vietnam Veteran G3 officer Former hand to Hand combat instructor for the 52 Combat Aviation Bn in Camp Holloway Vietnam and the Us 173rd Airborn as well as 101st Airborn which is now in Iraq. He has been in the martial arts for 62 years and has 51 years of teaching experience. He holds a 10th dan in Vo Co Truyen, 2nd successor of HTM World Martial Arts 18th Successor of Hiep-Tinh-Mon Vietnamese Traditional Martial arts. 8th dan in Kyokushinkai Karate, 8th dan in Daito Ryu Aiki jujitsu, 7th dan in Tae Kwon Do, 6th in Kenjutsu and Judo. He was Undefeated Vo Tu Do Vietnamese Kickinkboxing Champion for 1955-1963 and undefeated Free style Kickboxing Southeast Asia champion from 1958-1960.

Walter Parks is a 10th degree black belt in USA Goju under the late Grandmaster Peter Urban. He has also studied Uechi Ryu Karate, Cabales Serrada Escrima, Judo Aikido, band boxing. Billy Baugher

 

Outstanding Martial Artist

 

 

Billy Baugher started the martial arts in 1971 after a motorcycle wreck and 22 surguries with the doctors saying he should learn to defend himself since he won't be able to run. So Mr. Baugher started taking Moo Duk Kwan. Then he would go on to study Judo and Tae Kwon Do, currently holding a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and earning black belts in Jujitsu, Hapkido, Aikido, Tang Soo Do and Goju. From 1988-1992 he did submission fighting winning 150 matches and losing zero. Mr. Baugher is a certified Judge and Referee for any Tae Kwon Do event.

 

 

Daniel Bauwens

 

Black Belt Leadership Award

 

 

Mr. Bauwens holds the rank of 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He has won Multiple awards for excellent performance in the classroom and Excellence in Leadership at the World Martial Arts Academy where he and his family all hold black belts. He is a sanctioned Referee and is Currently USTU and USAT C-2 certified.

 

 

Allen Fischer

Allen has been involved in the martial arts since 1966. He has studied multiple styles with his first belt promotion in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do. He became interested in mixed martial arts and received his Black belt in American Karate. He was admitted into the World Martial Arts Ranking Association by Grandmaster J. Pat Burleson. Mr.Fischer now holds the rank of 4th degree black belt and was awarded the Instructor Award in 2004 by the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He also studies American Kenpo and Tushka Homa under Chie Adrian Roman and Combat Ju Jitsu under Michael DePasquale Jr. He is also an active member with the International Martial Arts Council of America.

 

 

William Jeffries

Mr. Jeffries holds the rank of 8th degree black belt in the art of Tae Kwon Do and 10th degree black belt Grandmasters level in the art of Ho Shindo. He has also studied Judo, Goshin Jitsu, Jujitsu and Gumdo. He is a member of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation and the USMA. He has been inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall Of Fame and the International Martial Arts Hall Of Fame. In 1993 and 2005 he received a Letter of Commendation from the WTF.

 

 

Lamont Johnson

 

Outstanding Referee

 

 

Born in 1950, did not start the martial arts until 1994. He received his 1st degree black belt in 2001 and has been an assistant instructor in Tae Know do. Due to having undergone 2 total hip replacements, his competing career has ended. He works out as much as possible and enjoys coaching the younger athletes. In 2002 he started his refeering career and has been certified by both USTU and the AAU.

 

 

Michael Rother

 

Sr. Master Instructor of the Year

 

 

Holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo with the United States National Tae Kwon Do Federation, a 5th Degree Black Belt with the WTF and is KuKKiwon Certified. He also has a 2nd degree Black Belt in Haidong Gumdoan Missouri State Director, and Nidan with the United States Judo Association Jujitsu Division. He is a certified Referee and owns Mike's Tae Kwon Do Academy of Martial Arts. Mr. Rother is also one of the Missouri State Directors for the United States Martial Arts Hall Of Fame and the International Martial Arts Council of America

 

 

Eric Tomlinson

Eric Tomlinson started training in the martial arts in 1971in England. He has trained in Shukokai Karate his entire martial arts career .In 1996 he moved to the United States and opened a Shukokai dojo in Missouri. In 2002 he joined the Shito Ryu Shukokai Union and was eventually granted the freedom by Sensei Yamada to organize a Union in the US.. Mr Tomlinson Holds the rank of 6th degree black belt Chief Instructor of the Shiyo ryu Shukokai Union in the USA.

Greg Waigand is Vice President Of Mike's Tae Kwon Do Academy and hold the rank of 2nd degree black belt and is certified with the World Tae Kwon Do Federation and the United States National Tae Kwon Do Federation. He holds a Sr. level belt in Haidong Gumdo. He has competed in and won numerous tournaments for both Tae Kwon Do and Haidong Gumdo. He was a member of the USA Karate team in 2002, 2003, and in 2004 he was the USA Karate team Captain for the Shito Ryu Shukokai World Cup in Japan. Ms. Witkowski is a certified Self Defense instructor and Co-Founder of the Defend and Survive Program and has been an outstanding citizen and positive roll model in her community and Western NY with youth group organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts of America, as well as School districts promoting positive self-esteem, awareness, self-discipline and self-defense as a last resort. Grand Master Jose Bueno founded the Progressive System of Martial Arts in 1998. GM Bueno has a long list of Martial Artists he has trained with over the years. He received the rank of Master from Professor Remy A. Presas in Modern Arnis. GM Bueno trained under Prof. Presas and was a Representative and Examiner for him in the state of California. GM Bueno received his Shodan in Dan Zan Ryu Jujuitsu from Sensai Don Cross of AJJF. Other Martial Artists GM Bueno has trained with included Tony Diego of Manilla, Bill McGraw, Dan Inasanto in the Filipino Arts and others at different Seminars over the years. These different arts helped develop the Progressive System of Martial Arts. GM Bueno is also an Inductee of the United States Kali Hall of Fame and the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame. GM Bueno moved from California in 2004 to Shady Cove, Oregon where he lives today.

Professor Robert Suttles started his training as a young boy with his step father, a hand to hand combat instructor in the USMC. Professor Robert Suttles has been involved in the martial arts for the past thirty five years. In 2003, Mr. Suttles was promoted to 8th degree black belt from Grand Master Ron Pierce in the art of Kajukenbo. In 1998, he was promoted to full instructor from Master Steve Golden, former personal student of the late Bruce Lee, in the art of Jeet Kune Do. In 1997, he was promoted to 5th degree black belt from Grand Master Victor A. Hughs, a Purple Heart recipient and black belt hall of famer in the art of D.O.C.S. Karate. In 1993 Robert was promoted to full instructor from the late Sifu Dick Burrows in the art of Jeet Kune Do/Kali. Professor Robert Suttles is one of the co-founders of Pierce Family Gung Fu under the leadership of Grand Master Ron Pierce.
